Ubuntu is a popular Linux distribution and Yahoo! Messenger is a popular web chat client. There is no official Yahoo! versions available for messenger. However there are many chat clients such as Empathy, Pidgin etc. are there in Linux and Yahoo id can be used there to chat. While talking about Pidgin, it is much powerful chat client. It has many features and one can even access Yahoo! chat rooms using this messenger.
Yahoo! Messenger provides HD video calling support. Though this option is available in Pidgin to use video call, it cannot be used for cam chat with a person who is not in your list. This often restricts the user from using web cam in chat rooms. As I mentioned before, there is no official version released for Linux distributions though Linux is gaining popularity day by day, especially in the case of Ubuntu.
There is a program called “Wine” which facilitates installing Windows applications in Linux. This is a windows compatibility layer and most of the ‘.exe’ files are supposed to be worked in Ubuntu. Go to software center and install Wine. This software is about 100 MB in size. Once it is installed, download the Yahoo! Messenger and install it. This will work fine.
